
Insurance defense law, zoning law, land use law, workers’ compensation law and estate planning. Specializes in lawsuits surrounding tractor-trailer accidents and holds a certificate from the Mayflower Truck Driving School in large rig driving and inspection.
Richard has served as chairman of the Allegheny County Municipal and School Solicitors Section, and is a past president of the Pennsylvania Borough Solicitors Association. Richard has also served two terms on the Board of the Academy of Trial Lawyers and chaired the Gourley Moot Court Competition.
Richard is the only member of the Board of the Academy of Trial Lawyers to have won the golf tournament and twice been a runner-up in the tennis tournament. He was National Champion in YMCA Masters Swimming in the 65+ mixed freestyle relay in 2006 and enjoys playing the trumpet in a concert band in the summer. Richard is also a proud grandpa.
Richard has extensive trial experience in casualty claims, errors and omissions, real estate title work, land use and zoning and employment discrimination.
Richard has published law review articles in The Dickinson Law Review on land use planning and substantive challenges to zoning laws. He has also published articles in Pennsylvania Magazine (“Massage Parlors”), The Pittsburgh Legal Journal (“How To Handle A Securities Arbitration” and “Valuing Pensions in Divorce Litigation”), The Barrister (“On the Substantial Factor” and “Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law”) and Western Pennsylvania History.
Richard also chaired a day long seminar on land use law for the Allegheny County Bar Association with national experts in the field.
