Medical malpractice.
James A. Wood has focused on trial work, particularly trials of medical malpractice cases, for 30 years. He has tried over 100 cases to verdict, including a number of very high exposure cases involving brain damaged babies. He has represented physicians from essentially all specialties and subspecialties. He has also represented hospitals and nursing facilities. Mr. Wood has given numerous lectures on the subject of medical malpractice cases including lectures to residency programs, and has participated in programs sponsored by the Allegheny County Medical Society, Pennsylvania Bar Association, and Allegheny County Academy of Trial Lawyers. In addition to medical malpractice defense, Mr. Wood has represented lawyers, corporate officials and public officials in errors and omissions cases and has also defended product liability and motor vehicle cases.
Mr. Wood obtained his undergraduate degree at Pennsylvania State University in 1971 and he received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1974.
Mr. Wood has served on specially-appointed committees in conjunction with the Allegheny County Bar Association regarding special problems posed by medical malpractice litigation. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania. Mr. Wood is a member of the Allegheny County Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Defense Research Institute and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
